How to Interpret the Terra Nova Graph
The Terra Nova results are reported using Median National Percentile Rank, Mean National Stanine, Mean Normal Curve Equivalent, and Mean Scale Score. The graph below was created to display the National Stanine level of our students' performance relative to National Percentile Ranks.
National Stanine is a scale the distributes the scores on the test ranging from 1 to 9 with the average performance of a student being 5.
National Percentile Rank percentile ranks, which range from 1 to 99, are commonly used for reporting test results to students and their parents/guardians. You may interpret a percentile as the percentage of students in a norm group whose scores fall below a given student's scale score. For example, if a student's scale score converts to a national percentile rank (NP) of 71, the student scored higher than approximately 71 percent of the students in the national norm group.
The graphs below reflect student achievement for Kindergarten students during the 2005 - 2006 school year. |
